School Librarian-Technology Infuser
The roles of librarians are ever expanding. We are asked to do more with less. Less help, less money, and less one-on-one training. Many of us use our free time to learn new technology at our kitchen tables. We also attend conferences and workshops either sponsored by our workplace or self-funded. The demand for keeping up with technology can be overwhelming. This wiki is an effort to organize some information to help school librarians struggling to continual improve their technology awareness and skills.

Large collection of job descriptions and program evaluations Resources for School Librarians: School Library Standards and Evaluation NYSThe following was taken from a May 5, 2011 email sent from Michael Borges [director@nyla.org], NYLA Director:
ALA’s Office for Information Technology Policy (OITP) has established a Digital Literacy Standards http://www.nyla.org/content/user_1/DigitalLiteracyStandards.pdfTask Force to “look across all types of library settings to identify common concerns and develop a shared vision for improving services and positioning libraries in this evolving role.”

Which is ALA speak for identifying best practices, standards and curriculum from around the country, including NYS standards that were developed with significant input from NYLA, and hopefully coming to a consensus around some national guidelines on digital literacy.
NYS standards were developed by the NYS Broadband Council with the intent that a digitally literate New Yorker would have the same skills and understanding whether they took a course or workshop in Buffalo or Brooklyn, and includes basic computer, software, internet and information literacy benchmarks.
See link for more info on NYS Standards, which we hope all libraries will incorporate in their training workshops/programs, etc.
